This one career framework is changing how I make EVERY career decision moving forward. It’s so good I’ve been repeating it to friends in transition, friends in burnout, friends figuring out what's next. There are 6 games you play in your career: - Security Game (salaryman) - Money Game (hedge fund manager) - Mastery Game (artist, engineer who loves to code) - Autonomy Game (freelancer, creator) - Influence Game (politician) - Altruism Game (social worker, non-profit worker) I love this framework. Especially because I love games. The real unlock is knowing which game you want to win. It gives you permission to stop performing and start aligning. Most people are miserable because: - They’re chasing all the games or too many at the same time. - They’re playing a game society told them to play. - They’re optimizing for a game they don’t actually care about winning. When I heard this, I immediately thought: “That’s me” → Autonomy Game. But I spent years trying to win the wrong games in Influence and Money. Knowing what games I’m trying to win gave me a better career strategy. It also makes playing the game more fun along the way! TAKEAWAY: If you’re feeling lost or stuck in your career, maybe it’s not about working harder. Maybe you’re just playing the wrong game. What game are you currently playing? More importantly, what game do you want to play? s/o to David Fallarme who introduced this awesome framework! View original post on LinkedIn.
